I love Old Wilmington, North Carolina. It is a 19th Century Historic town, located in Southern North Carolina along the Cape Fear River. It is one of the few towns that Sherman did not destroy in his Civil War rampage of the South. After the Fort at Fort Fisher was taken. As the story goes, Sherman was so taken aback by the sheer hospitality of the people of Wilmington, he spared the charming town and left many of its' historic homes and buildings untouched by his tanks. Today many of Wilmington's Historic Homes and buildings are kept standing by money raised by the Old Wilmington Preservation Society. Every year, The Society has a Historic Homes Tour to keep many homes from the wrecking ball. For this reason, I am writing about the tour and hope you will support the preservation of old homes and buildings not only in Wilmington but wherever you can.
These old structures add beauty, charm and serenity. If you ever visit Old Historic Downtown Wilmington, NC, you will feel the serenity. Walk down the cobblestone road to the river docks at Market and Water Streets, take a walking tour, ride in a horse drawn carriage or take a 20 minute boat ride up the Cape Fear River. Be sure to eat at one of the great restaurants that look out over the Cape Fear River. Enjoy the Serenity.
